In District 5, Thiệu Ký Mì Gia is one of those addresses. A classic Cantonese noodle soup spot with more than 70 years of history, it speaks to Saigon’s Chinese-Vietnamese heritage and the kind of food culture that survives because people keep coming back.
Nearby, Chè Thanh Tâm offers another side of the city. Chè is a broad family of Vietnamese sweet soups and dessert drinks, often served hot or cold. Here, the focus is on Chinese-Vietnamese chè, full of texture and nostalgic flavours. Try black sesame sweet soup, longan dessert, or sâm bổ lượng, a cooling dessert drink made with dried fruits, seeds, and herbal ingredients.
For something simple and local, Bánh Cuốn Tây Hồ is another team favorite. Bánh cuốn are delicate steamed rice rolls, often filled with minced pork and mushrooms, then served with herbs and nước mắm - Vietnam’s essential fish sauce-based dipping sauce.
For a slower moment, our team’s current Thảo Điền favorite is May Coffee, a calm place for salted coffee, pastries, reading, or catching up with a friend.
And when the evening begins, Saigon has no shortage of addresses with a mood. Summer Experiment is known for creative cocktails and an illustrated menu. The Iron Bank brings a warmer old-style atmosphere in District 1, and Bebop Saigon remains a classic choice for jazz, soul, and a late-night Saigon atmosphere..
Saigon is not a city you simply visit. It is a city you taste, sip, and follow into unexpected corners.
And if you visit Hanoi when the air turns cool, look out for fried bananas on the street. Warm, crisp, and sweet, it is a small seasonal pleasure, the kind of detail that rarely appears on an itinerary but often stays in the memory.

From Da Nang and Hoi An to Hue, Central Vietnam offers some of the country's most memorable food and coffee experiences. Many of our favorite places are small, local and unpretentious. They may not appear on every travel list, but they are exactly the kinds of hidden gems that make a journey feel personal.
In Da Nang, Àla Cafe is a small specialty coffee spot tucked inside an alley, while Nam Danh Seafood is the kind of local seafood address where freshness matters more than polish. At Bắc Mỹ An Market, Ms. Vân’s avocado ice cream is a simple stop, but one that captures the fun of eating your way through a local market.
In Hoi An, Cô Thu BBQ keeps things beautifully uncomplicated: grilled pork with rice paper and bún thịt nướng, a grilled pork and rice vermicelli dish served with herbs, sauce and crunchy toppings. Only a couple of dishes, mostly local guests, and exactly the kind of focused cooking we love.
Hue offers something more unexpected: chè bột lọc heo quay, a sweet soup made with chewy tapioca dumplings filled with roasted pork, often served in ginger syrup. It may sound surprising at first, but that is part of the point. Some of Vietnam’s most memorable flavours are the ones that challenge your expectations before earning a place in your travel stories.
Central Vietnam is full of these small, specific memories. Not always grand but deeply rooted in place.
