MakeYourAsia Steps Towards a Plastic-Free Office and Greener Travel

On October 28, 2024, our CEO, Lukasz Kozlowski, joined leaders from TGM Research and W Business Center at the Central and Eastern European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam’s (CEEC) panel, "Waste Not, Win Big: Eco-Leadership in Practice" to launch the Act Green Campaign. This initiative focuses on small actions such as removing plastic bottles and implementing refilling stations on our buses. By inspiring personal responsibility and everyday sustainability, we aim to build a greener future, proving that simple, conscious habits can transform our communities and the environment.
Lukasz highlighted the steps we’re taking to drive sustainability forward, our core motivations, and the specific actions we’ve implemented to achieve this. A significant reason stems from the waste generated in our own office: With over 30 of us working alongside TGM, even if each person discards just one item a day, it quickly adds up to over 900 pieces of waste each month! Another reason lies in how tourists perceive and remember Vietnam, with many sharing photos that capture plastic waste along our coastlines and vibrant city streets. These images circulate online, serving as a reminder of the need to tackle waste directly - not only for the environment but to leave a positive, lasting impression on our visitors.

What we implement for a greener future
Our approach to reducing waste goes beyond simple gestures. While many companies still rely on disposable items, we’re committed to reusable alternatives. By offering practical, reusable items (bamboo straws, tote bags, bottles...), we cut down on waste and promote sustainability with every use. Last year, we launched a Zero-waste Challenge with TGM Research, which encourages everyone to reduce waste with rewards to keep motivation high. The results speak for themselves: data from October shows no penalties related to plastic use - a significant improvement compared to previous months. This initiative has inspired us to find creative, effective ways to eliminate unnecessary waste and stay consistent in our sustainable efforts.
Our dedication to sustainability drives us to seek partnerships in business in the Mekong Delta that share our eco-friendly vision. We’re actively supporting these local partners to further reduce their environmental footprint by encouraging the shift to sustainable packaging options, such as those made from paper, bamboo, and rice. By collaborating with companies already mindful of waste reduction, we’re helping to expand the reach of positive environmental practices across the region.
Every action counts
Transitioning to a plastic-free office wasn’t easy, but it’s been worth it! Many of us now bring our own mugs, food containers, and water bottles, reducing plastic use when ordering food or drinks from nearby vendors. To support our team’s zero-waste journey, we’ve posted a list of eco-friendly resources on the office fridge, making it easy to find plastic-free lunch options. If team members prefer not to order from the list, they can enjoy meals together—another way to bond as a team! We also check in regularly to find out what our team needs, from reusable products to helpful tips.
Looking ahead, Lukasz highlighted two key goals. First, we aim to eliminate all plastic waste on our buses. This is a significant challenge, considering we transport up to 40 passengers per trip, but we’re aiming to make a big impact by offering refilling stations on all trips, creating a cleaner, greener experience for our travelers. Second, we’re collaborating with W Business to reduce waste in our office and encourage nearby vendors to adopt eco-friendly practices. By sharing our journey, we hope you'll be inspired to join us in making a positive difference. Together, we can achieve significant results through small, collective actions!
