Business of Greater Poland Region: Destination Asia 2020 EN

An online seminar called "Wielkopolski Biznes: Kierunek Azja 2020" (Business of Greater Poland Region: Destination Asia 2020) was held and co-organized by the Local Government of the Greater Poland Region in cooperation with the Polish Chamber of Commerce for Importers, Exporters, and Cooperation, as well as the Greater Poland Development Fund. The main topic of the online conference was Cambodia's market potential and opportunities for businesses. The purpose of this seminar was to attract potential foreign businesses to enter the market.

Opportunities in Cambodia

Cambodia is becoming an attractive destination for foreign investors looking for new business opportunities. Its growth is not limited to the capital, Phnom Penh. In the past two years, Sihanoukville is a quiet town on the Gulf of Thailand, has transformed into a bustling construction hub. This transformation is fueled by a deep-water port crucial for the Belt and Road Initiative, connecting China and other global destinations. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Cambodia stands as a promising market, particularly for entrepreneurs. The country is still in its early stages of development, creating openings for businesses, especially in tourism and related industries.

According to the World Bank's data (2020), Cambodia's economy has consistently grown at an average rate of 7.7% of GDP per year, for the past two decades. Polish entrepreneurs have already found success in the Khmer market, expanding their ventures beyond tourism to include furniture and construction sectors.

Why invest in Cambodia?

The EU-ASEAN Business Council sees significant economic potential in ASEAN over the next five years, and Cambodia stands out as a particularly appealing destination. This attraction is rooted in several regional factors, focusing on Cambodia's macroeconomic conditions, regulatory environment, and the progression of trade agreements. Cambodia is home to one of the fastest-growing economies and is the youngest market in the region. Moreover, it warmly welcomes foreign investors, allowing 100 percent foreign-owned investment across nearly every sector. Investors benefit from solid economic growth, a strategic geographical location, a friendly environment for foreign investments, ongoing infrastructure development, and, crucially, a supportive legal and socio-political framework. Consequently, Cambodia has effectively drawn foreign direct investment, and its favorable economic reforms contribute to an optimistic outlook for future growth.
