Laos Visa Requirements

Laos Visa Exemption: Visa-Free Entry 2026
Citizens of several countries can enter Laos without a visa for a limited stay, depending on nationality. Visa exemption applies mainly to travelers from neighboring ASEAN countries and selected nations such as Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, Japan, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Mongolia.
To confirm your eligibility, always check the latest information from the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Tourist Visa Options
Most travelers will need a visa to visit Laos. You can obtain it through three convenient methods:
1. e-Visa (Recommended)
Apply online through the official Lao e-Visa portal. Processing usually takes around 3 business days and costs 50 USD, and the visa is valid for tourism and short stays.
2. Visa on Arrival
Available at several international airports and land borders in Laos. You’ll need:
- A completed visa application form
- Two passport-sized photos
- Visa fee: typically between $30 ~ $45 USD, depending on your nationality and point of entry
- Passport valid for at least 6 months with at least 1–2 blank pages for the visa sticker and stamps
3. Embassy Visa
- You may also apply at the Embassy of Laos in your country or region. Bring:
- A completed application form
- Passport valid for at least 6 months with 2 blank pages
- One passport photo
- Visa fee (varies by embassy)
Lao Digital Immigration Form (LDIF)
Starting September 2025, all travelers entering or leaving Laos must complete the LDIF, a mandatory digital immigration form. This online system replaces the old paper arrival/departure card and speeds up processing at immigration counters.
You can complete the LDIF online before traveling or shortly before arrival. Be prepared to show the confirmation at the airport.
