Vietnam Entry Requirements 2026

Vietnam is a popular travel destination, and many international travelers can enjoy visa-free access to the country for short stays. Citizens from select countries are eligible for visa exemption, which allows for stays ranging from 14 to 90 days, depending on the nationality.

From August 15, 2025, citizens of 12 European countries — Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland — can enter Vietnam visa-free for tourism purposes for up to 45 days. The policy will remain in effect until August 14, 2028.

If you are not eligible for visa exemption, Vietnam's e-visa system offers a convenient alternative.

Since the program's expansion in 2023, citizens of all countries and territories are eligible to apply for a Vietnam e-visa. Travelers can choose:

• Single-entry or multiple-entry visas
• Validity periods of up to 90 days
• Online application through the official Vietnam Immigration portal

Processing usually takes around 3–5 working days, though travelers are advised to apply at least one week before departure.

For longer stays or multi-entry visits, travelers can apply for a visa on arrival, but only with pre-arranged approval through a travel agency or visa agent. Ensure you have the necessary approval letter before arriving.

Vietnam has introduced a digital Pre-Arrival Information (PAI) system to speed up immigration procedures. Travelers arriving via Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc are required to complete the online declaration before arrival and keep the QR code for immigration checks.

Please note that the PAI system does not replace visa requirements.

Starting July 1, 2026, all travelers entering, exiting, or transiting through Vietnam must complete an online health declaration within seven days before travel. The declaration applies to arrivals by air, land, and sea.

The form is issued by the Ministry of Health and is available in both Vietnamese and English. Additional health measures may be introduced during periods of infectious disease outbreaks.

• Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date.
• Immigration officers may request proof of onward or return travel and details of your accommodation.
• Travelers arriving in Ho Chi Minh City may need to present the QR code generated after completing the Pre-Arrival Declaration.
• From July 1, 2026, all international travelers must complete the new health declaration before entering, leaving, or transiting through Vietnam.
