Your journey through Laos begins in Luang Prabang – a historic town set between the Mekong and Nam Khan Rivers, where traditional Lao culture, colonial architecture, and a peaceful spiritual atmosphere come together. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it offers a first glimpse into the country’s rich heritage and slower rhythm of life.

Upon arrival in Luang Prabang, you will be welcomed at the airport and transferred to a comfortable hotel surrounded by a beautiful garden. As flights to the city often arrive in the afternoon, the first day is designed for a relaxed start – giving you time to rest, settle in, or take your first walk through the charming Old Town, with its historic buildings, local cafés, and atmospheric temples. Overnight stay at a comfortable hotel near the Old Town.

After breakfast, you will begin exploring the highlights of Luang Prabang. Your day starts at the Royal Palace Museum, where you will discover more about the history and heritage of Laos.

A cruise along the Mekong River will take you through peaceful riverside landscapes and traditional Lao villages. Along the way, you will visit the Pak Ou Caves, an important spiritual site home to thousands of Buddha statues, and stop at Ban Xanghai village, known for its traditional rice spirit production.

Back in Luang Prabang, you will discover some of the town’s finest examples of local architecture and cultural heritage, including the beautifully decorated Wat Xieng Thong Temple and a historic house now serving as a center dedicated to Lao traditions and craftsmanship.

The day ends at Wat Phra Bat Tai, where you can enjoy sunset views over the surroundings, followed by a walk through the famous Night Market filled with local handicrafts and the vibrant atmosphere of Luang Prabang.

Overnight stay in Luang Prabang.

Early in the morning, you will witness one of Luang Prabang’s most meaningful traditions – the daily alms-giving ceremony, when monks in saffron robes receive offerings from local residents. Afterwards, you will visit the morning market, where the people of Luang Prabang choose fresh ingredients for their everyday meals.

You will also climb Mount Phousi, where panoramic views over Luang Prabang and the Mekong River await.

The day continues with a journey into nature at Kuang Si Waterfalls, surrounded by lush greenery and turquoise pools where you can take a refreshing swim. Along the way, you will visit the nearby Bear Rescue Centre and Ock Pop Tok Living Craft Centre, where you will learn about traditional Lao craftsmanship and the stories of women preserving these skills.

The day ends with a peaceful cruise along the Mekong River, offering a chance to watch the sunset over the water and appreciate the quiet atmosphere of Laos.

Return to Luang Prabang for an overnight stay at your hotel.

Today, you will travel by train to Vang Vieng. The China–Laos Railway has transformed the way of exploring the country, replacing long journeys along winding mountain roads with a comfortable ride through the heart of Laos. The journey itself becomes part of the experience, as the train passes through tunnels and across bridges surrounded by limestone peaks and forested hills.

Set among towering limestone formations, Vang Vieng is known for its many caves hidden within the surrounding mountains. You will explore several of them, including Elephant Cave, an important Buddhist shrine, Tham Hoi (Snail Cave), which leads deep into the mountains, and Loop Cave, where you can admire unique rock formations. You will also visit Water Cave, where you can cool off in a natural pool before floating through underground passages filled with clear water.

After exploring the caves, you will take a scenic walk of around 2 km through rice fields and vegetable gardens to the Hmong village of Phathao, discovering the peaceful rhythm of rural Laos along the way.

How about starting the morning by watching the first rays of sunlight spread across the green valleys from a completely different perspective? A hot air balloon ride over the Nam Song River valley offers a peaceful way to admire the sunrise above the limestone mountains (optional activity).

After breakfast, you will head outside the town to the starting point of your kayaking adventure. Following the gentle flow of the river, you will paddle through landscapes of lush greenery and limestone cliffs rising above the water. Along the way, you will explore two caves, including Tham Norn Cave, where you will learn about its connection to the history of the Second Indochina War.

The kayaking route ends in the center of Vang Vieng, from where you will continue to Blue Lagoon – a natural swimming spot formed where mountain streams emerge from the surrounding rocks, creating clear pools surrounded by greenery.

Early in the morning, you will set out towards Vientiane, the capital of Laos. The city moves at a relaxed pace, shaped by a unique blend of Lao, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, and French influences.

On the way, you will stop at a local Hmong market, offering a chance to observe everyday life, local trade, and the rhythm of a traditional Asian marketplace.

After arriving in Vientiane, you will begin an afternoon exploration of the city. Your first stop will be Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple in the capital, known for its delicate frescoes and hundreds of Buddha images. You will then visit Haw Phra Kaew, a former royal temple that once housed the famous Emerald Buddha, now preserved in Bangkok’s Wat Phra Kaew Temple.

The day continues with a visit to Patuxay, the city’s iconic Victory Monument, followed by That Luang – the golden stupa and one of Laos’ most important national symbols.

The time has come to leave Laos – a country of peaceful rivers, golden temples, and warm hospitality. Your driver will take you to Vientiane Airport, where you will continue your journey and set off to discover more of Southeast Asia’s fascinating destinations.
