Day 1: LAHAD DATU
After meeting at the airport in Lahad Datu and completing the formalities, you will set off into the depths of Borneo. The journey reveals the island’s shifting landscape, from areas shaped by human activity to increasingly dense and untamed forest. With every kilometre, the traces of civilisation fade further into the distance.
After around two and a half hours, you will arrive at Borneo Rainforest Lodge, an intimate retreat set deep within the primary rainforest. From the terraces, views open out over the jungle and the river, while the sounds of nature accompany you throughout the day. Over the years, this remarkable place has drawn travellers, naturalists, and wildlife enthusiasts from around the world, all captivated by its unique location in the heart of Danum Valley.
Following lunch, you will head out for your first walk in the surrounding forest. Jungle trails lead to the Canopy Walkway, a series of suspension bridges set high among the treetops. From this vantage point, the rainforest reveals a completely different perspective, with an endless expanse of green stretching to the horizon.
In the evening, you will set out in an electric vehicle along nearby trails and forest roads. Its quiet movement allows you to observe wildlife without disturbing the natural rhythm of the forest. This is an ideal time to look out for larger animals emerging after dark.

Day 2: DANUM VALLEY
The day begins with the unmistakable calls of Bornean gibbons, announcing their presence across the forest each morning. Their resonant songs are among the most remarkable sounds of the tropical jungle.
After breakfast, you will set out on a guided trek through the primary rainforest. Your path leads beneath a towering rock cliff to a site hidden deep within the forest. Here lies one of the most fascinating cultural remnants of Borneo’s past, a traditional burial site of the Kadazan-Dusun community. Wooden coffins, resting in natural rock niches, have remained here for decades, bearing quiet witness to ancient beliefs and customs.
The afternoon is dedicated to further exploration of the forest. Walking through Danum Valley is a constant encounter with extraordinary nature, from towering trees to the smallest life forms concealed among roots and leaves. Your guides know this ecosystem intimately and are skilled at revealing details that most visitors would never notice.
Those who prefer a slower pace may choose a gentle river float on inflatable tubes. Drifting with the current, surrounded by lush tropical greenery, offers a completely different perspective on the rainforest. After dark, you will return once more to the world of the jungle, this time on foot and equipped with torches. The forest at night is alive with movement. Among the leaves, frogs, insects, spiders, and countless other creatures emerge, many of them rarely seen during the day.

Day 3: FAREWELL TO THE JUNGLE
The final morning in Danum Valley unfolds at a gentler pace. There is time for breakfast, relaxation, and taking in the endless expanse of green once more. Soft mists often rise above the forest canopy, with drifting clouds of moisture giving the landscape an almost mystical atmosphere. It is a perfect moment to listen once again to the sounds of the forest and absorb the feeling of a place that has remained largely unchanged for millions of years.
In the afternoon, you will begin your journey back to Lahad Datu, from where you will continue on to Kota Kinabalu or your next destination in Malaysia.
