1 Day Hanoi Food Tour Itinerary
MORNING IN HANOI
We’ll start the day early, just like the locals. At 6:30 AM, we’ll walk through the narrow streets of the Old Quarter as it wakes up. Our first stop will be Hoan Kiem Lake (Lake of the Returned Sword), where you’ll see locals practicing tai chi, wushu, or even ballroom dancing in the park. Feel free to join in if you’d like to try a bit of energetic aerobics!
After a 15-minute stroll, we’ll head to a famous restaurant to enjoy a classic Hanoi breakfast – phở soup. If you prefer something lighter, we have an option for crab soup with different toppings. You’ll learn how the locals season their soups to bring out the best flavors and get a feel for how people in Hanoi enjoy their morning meals.
With our bellies full, we’ll head to the Temple of Literature, Vietnam’s first university and a place of worship for Confucius. The peaceful architecture and the greenery of the courtyards create a relaxing space, perfect for learning about the interesting history behind it.

TEA TASTING & EXPLORING THE CITY
Next, we’ll walk to a nearby teahouse where you’ll taste local teas paired with traditional snacks like candied or salted fruits. This is a perfect moment to relax before continuing our journey.
After tea, we’ll dive into Vietnam’s more modern history with a visit to Hoa Lo Prison, where you’ll learn about the important events that took place here. If time allows, we’ll also visit the famous Train Street, where you can enjoy the thrill of a train passing just inches from your table! Here, you’ll have the chance to recharge with strong Vietnamese coffee, whether it’s sweet egg coffee or strong black iced coffee.

MIDDAY ADVENTURES
We’ll then visit Ngoc Son Temple on Jade Mountain, accessed by crossing a picturesque red bridge. You’ll hear the legend of the Great Golden Turtle and learn how the Lake of the Returned Sword got its name.
By midday, it’s time for a local favorite – bún chả. This iconic Hanoi dish features rice noodles with grilled pork, bacon, and a fish sauce marinade, served with fresh herbs. We’ll also enjoy crispy Hanoi spring rolls to complete the meal.

END OF MORNING EXPLORATION
On the way back to the hotel, we’ll stop at a street stall for refreshing drinks like green tea, herbal beverages, or local fruit compotes. Depending on what’s available, you’ll get to try some unique local drinks while watching the daily lives of Hanoians unfold.
After returning to the hotel, you’ll have some free time to rest and recharge before exploring more of Hanoi in the evening.

WHEN DUSK FALLS
At around 3:30 PM, we’ll head out to explore more of the capital. We’ll take a city bus to the other side of the Red River – time to step out of our comfort zone! In a local restaurant with a view of one of Hanoi's iconic landmarks, the Long Bien Bridge, you’ll try two unique dishes: wok-roasted frog and snails cooked in different styles. Don’t worry, our guide will walk you through how to enjoy these exotic flavors!
Next, we’ll shift perspectives and experience Hanoi as it enters evening rush hour. We’ll visit the highest rooftop bar in the city, offering a panoramic view of Hanoi. With a drink in hand, you’ll see the contrast between the different districts and take in the vast size of West Lake as the sun sets.

EVENING IN THE OLD QUARTER
As night falls, we’ll return to the Old Quarter. Walking through the winding alleys and streets branching off from Hoan Kiem Lake, you’ll see how Hanoi transforms at night, showing a completely different side of the city.
We’ll make our way to a local family-run restaurant where you’ll enjoy dishes prepared just like they are in Hanoian homes. For dinner, you’ll try fried rice from a hot wok, grilled pork ribs, or surprisingly delicious tofu in tomatoes. The meal will be perfectly paired with a light, refreshing draft beer. Dining here is more than just a meal – it’s a glimpse into the daily life and culture of Hanoians as they gather for an evening feast.

NIGHTCAP AND FAREWELL TO HANOI
To end the day, we’ll head to a cozy rooftop bar in the heart of the Old Quarter. The cocktails here are creative and feature exotic combinations of flavors and aromas. With one last drink in hand, you’ll say goodbye to the lively streets of Hanoi, watching scooters zoom by toward the Hanoi Opera House in the distance.
We’ll wrap up our adventure around 9:30 PM and head back to the hotel for a well-deserved rest.
