1 Day Saigon Food Tour Itinerary
A FLAVORFUL START IN CHINATOWN
We’ll kick off the day early at 6:30 AM, jumping on a local bus to dive right into the heart of Saigon. The energy of the streets will surround you as we head to the lively Phung Hung Market. Once we arrive, get ready for a feast for the senses! We’ll wander through stalls bursting with color, lively sounds, and the tempting aroma of fresh ingredients, fragrant herbs, and sizzling cooked dishes.
For breakfast, you’ll enjoy the authentic taste of banh cuon (Hong Kong steamed rice rolls filled) with plump shrimp, crab stick, and other delicious fillings. Then, savor delicate buns and dumplings, all steamed to perfection and placed in traditional bamboo baskets. Treat yourself to sweet xôi (sticky rice with mung bean paste and coconut milk) - a delightful way to satisfy your sweet cravings!
SIP, SAVOR, AND DISCOVER
After enjoying some delicious dishes, it’s time to try two unique local drinks: the iconic "sock coffee" - slowly brewed through a fabric filter - and "bitter water", a traditional drink that locals swear by for its health benefits. Next, we’ll visit a small temple supported by the local community. You can light incense, make a wish for good fortune, and uncover captivating tales of the trading communities that have shaped Chinatown for generations. It’s a unique chance to feel the heart and history of the area come alive!
Our next stop is the home of a Chinese tea merchant whose family has been in the tea business for three generations. Here, you’ll dive into the world of tea-making, learning how to brew each type to unlock its unique flavors and aromas. As you sip, you’ll discover the health benefits that come with this cherished tradition - a chance to taste, learn, and embrace the essence of Chinese tea culture.
STEPPING BACK IN TIME
After our tea adventure, we’ll make a quick stop for an unexpected snack: grilled bananas with coconut milk! You may think, "Bananas? Grilled?"—but trust us, this dish will completely change your mind. The natural sweetness of perfectly charred bananas is deepened by the smoky grill, topped with creamy, rich coconut milk. Get ready to fall in love with this comforting snack that will leave you craving more!
Then, we’ll make our way to the War Remnants Museum, a place where history comes alive and invites reflection. As we explore powerful exhibits, hear real-life stories, and view striking photographs, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the Vietnam War (here known as the American War) from the Vietnamese perspective. The museum does more than recount history - it brings the courage and the resilience of the Vietnamese people to the forefront.
ENJOY A HEARTY SAIGON LUNCH
After the museum visit, we’re diving straight into a hearty Saigon lunch! Depending on what’s fresh and available that day, we’ll indulge in either bún thịt nướng - a satisfying bowl of grilled pork, herbs layered over tender rice noodles, or the beloved cơm tấm, a plate of broken rice topped with juicy grilled pork chops, accompanied by pickled vegetables and a savory fish sauce dip that brings everything to life. If you'd like to try something different, we can take you to a popular spot among the office crowd, where locals go for their daily lunch. It's a fantastic chance to experience the everyday rhythm of Saigon!
No visit to Saigon is complete without exploring its historical heart. We'll take a stroll through the city’s colonial landmarks, starting with the stunning Central Post Office, known for its beautiful French architecture. Nearby, you'll get to admire the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral with its towering spires and the Reunification Palace - a symbol of Saigon’s dramatic history. Each of these sites tells a unique story, and together they capture the essence of this vibrant city.
VIETNAMESE COFFEE WORKSHOP
To wrap up the day, we’re diving into the world of Vietnamese coffee with a fun, hands-on coffee workshop! Vietnamese coffee is famous worldwide, and now it’s your turn to master the craft. You’ll learn to make coffee the Saigon way, with its signature sweetened condensed milk (cà phê sữa đá), the smooth and bold Central Vietnam-style, and even a unique Fusion-style twist. The expert will guide you to perfect your coffee-making skills, so you can impress your friends back home!
After our coffee workshop, you'll leave with a full belly, great memories, and a deeper appreciation for Saigon's vibrant culture and flavors. And if you’re not ready to say goodbye to the city, why not join us for our Saigon By Night tour? Hop on a motorbike and experience the city’s nightlife - colorful streets, buzzing energy, and tasty local street food under the glow of neon lights. It’s the perfect way to see Saigon in a whole new way!
